World Environment Day June 5, PM Modi Plants sapling at 7 RCR

On Occasion of World Environment Day June 5 Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a sapling at his official residence at 7, Race Course Road New Delhi. The ministry for Environment, Forests and Climate Change celebrating the occasion by planting saplings across the country.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar was also present at the occasion.

“Seventy acres of forest land in Pune is being compounded and about 4,000 trees will be planted on it. This project will be run through public participation in the form of a memorial garden. People will pay Rs.2,000 per tree and that tree will be named after their loved ones.”

The Environment Ministry has invited eminent sportspersons like Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Sushil Kumar to participate in a countrywide sapling plantation drive.

“This is a good start and we appeal to people that they should also join the campaign by planting more and more trees,” said Union Minister for Environment Prakash Javadekar said.

It was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972 on the day that United Nations Conference on the Human Environment began.

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated every year on 5 June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth. It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
